What’s on your summer highlight reel? A vacation, special day with the family, your kid learning to swim or ride their bike…or maybe a nice night out sans kids?
Mine include a couple of these – but mostly gratitude for a simple summer. My oldest spent her days outside with neighborhood friends, spent plenty of time being “bored” and creating ziplines for her stuffies out of junk-drawer finds, setting up a face paint booth in the driveway regularly and designing and imagining a personal playhouse that I can only describe as nothing short of a full out blueprint for her dream home one day.
My sweet C got to attend some time at summer school which was a tremendous gift to help her keep up with her routine and strength building. We spent time cuddled on the front stoop watching her sisters play as much as she could tolerate and I’d say she had one of her happier summers yet, albeit still dealing with pain weekly.
Our baby, turned toddler ventured out with the big kids every chance she could and re-entered our house often head to toe (and bottom) covered in a rainbow of chalk dust. A child with little fear, her summer highlight reel was visible with plenty of bumps and bruises, too.
I got antsy every once in a while, overwhelmed here and there, but honestly, I felt so much happier this summer. Happy because I focused on what I could control. I enjoyed my time home with the girls and the quick outings we took. Some special one-on-one time in the afternoons with my oldest throughout the summer at the pool and a part-time job that continues to give me an outlet and a much needed break from “mommy-ing” all day definitely helped, too.
I have so much to be thankful for and I just needed to pop on and remind myself of this summer. And hopefully help you collect the good moments from yours. I won’t bore you with the top summer style picks because – one, they’re probably sold out and two – I’m super ready for fall weather – but I’ll get back to that soon.
