A toast to the latest in mom life, spring finds, HTM reader faves & more.

to Momma life

I’ve been writing out my daily gratitude after reading The Miracle Morning right before the new year. While not all my habits have stuck since January 1, I’m so grateful this one has and it’s made a ton of difference especially over the long winter which can easily get us all a little down.

March has been a roller coaster of emotion especially with my daughter’s epilepsy condition – increased seizure frequency and duration, my note taking on why and when her body is seizing and shaking isn’t adding up like it once did and while our plan and meeting with her neurologist earlier this month went well, the plan has yet to go according to plan.

Being able to focus on the good – her laughs, our snuggles after hard days or another seizure, and knowing we’ll keep marching forward is getting me through. And having the practice to actually stop and remember there is good in every day has been a life saver for this momma. (And I wanted to extend a big thank you to everyone who showed up for Purple Day! All of the photos and support were seriously amazing!)

Finding my word

I’ve also been working on setting my intentions each day. Lots of what I’m reading or listening to has been focused on setting intention in your days and in your life. I have a feeling this one will be a game changer and on the first day of spring this year, I realized that’s my word for the year – Intention. I’ve stepped back and thought about what that means in all areas of my life. From something as simple as thinking about what my intention is for the drive home when I pick up my daughters from school or before I head into a meeting at work, it’s about knowing what you want out of those moments rather than letting them run you. For Lent, I gave up my phone between home from school hours and my youngest’s bedtime. It’s given me more focus and there’s a whole lot less, “oh I need to check on this and that.” If I really need to check something, I have to take the time to get on my computer vs. grabbing my phone and getting distracted by something else on it. My part-time career is also undergoing some changes right now as my company reorganizes, and it’s given me a chance to stop and remember my why in this area of life. I left my full time position a few years ago and changed the outlook for what I want out of a career. But I loved what I did and still like what I do, so it’s easy to get drawn in to all the could-be’s from my past. Intention has helped me step back and remember my why when opportunity comes.

And in this blogging world, I’m trying to use intention in my daily posts – what am I sharing and why. And stepping back further, to figure out how to make the time to write and type more than a sentence or two on social media. It’s a balance because I know for most of us, easy and quick hitting are what fit in our schedules, but a lot of why I started a blog is because I love the outlet of words, I love to write. So even if no one is still reading this “toast” to March, well, at least I’ve sat back and remembered what I’m toasting to ::insert winky-eye emoji::

I basically copied Potbelly’s Mediterranean chicken and it’s a new family fave! I just broil the chicken with some paprika, S&P and serve with artichokes, feta crumbles, red pepper hummus, cucumbers, pita bread and I add hot peppers. It’s soooo good!

and my latest book recommendation

I had the chance to pre-read “Girl, Stop Apologizing” and it’s one you’ll want on your bookshelf. I’m a library girl, but I love having my favorite personal growth books at home to re-read and refer back to. Let me know if you have any recommendations!

Hope you’ve reflected on your own toast to March while checking out this round up post. Thanks for all your support, friends! Here’s to a great April!

XO, Erin

Hi there! I’m Erin and mom to three amazing kids and wife to the best husband around IMHO! We’re doing our best to find joy in our days and love in our hearts even when things are hard. Our middle daughter has a catastrophic form of epilepsy that affects every part of her life and ours. She’s taught us more than we could have ever learned about the importance of life, love and God. Our days aren’t anything glamorous, but I’ve learned to take time for the things I enjoy. As mom, wife, friend and just good ole’ me. I think it’s important for you to take care of yourself too – have fun, remember you’re amazing and be confident in what you wear, what you eat and what you feel. So here’s to you, here’s to us, and here’s to this amazing thing we get to do every day as momma!
